Story

To know Legend is to love him and even for those who don’t, watching him fight has been nothing short of a blessing. Legend Wilson was born February 16, 2022, prematurely at 24 weeks and since then stayed 511 days in the NICU at Vanderbilt Hospital, before finally being able to come home after receiving his tracheostomy and ventilator while also being hooked to oxygen. He recently just completed a full year out of the NICU on July 12, 2024. Over that year, he had plenty of accomplishments. Including breathing on his own for a while, not needing oxygen throughout the day, undergoing physical therapy to try to sit up on his own, strengthening his legs, and even talking, making noises (Yes, No, Mama, Dada) & dancing (loves Gracies Corner)! He was the happiest baby, with the sweetest smile, and had the biggest heart. He was the definition of happiness, his smile could brighten the darkest room and it has so many times. Legend has truly left his mark on this world and his family. Over time, he has undergone many surgeries and trials to improve his health (including brain, open heart, abdominal and gut surgeries, and many other simple procedures). For a long time, Legend has fought a very long fight and has battled through many struggles to remain here. Against all odds, Legend recently just made it to 3 years old despite everything he has been through. He’s shared plenty of laughs and smiles with his family and many of his nurses. His fight along with the support of his Mom and Dad (Khalaya Ewing & Micheal Wilson), has truly inspired other NICU moms to go a step further and to never be afraid to be a strong advocate for their loved one because there is always another way and for a long time they found it. His family and friends have been on the side of him supporting and praying for him every step of the way, but he put in the real work. Over time, he’s grown stronger. He’s given all of us a great love within, knowing him. Unfortunately, on May 21, 2025, he went into cardiac arrest and things took a turn for the worse. After a couple of days, due to constant seizure activity, he lost complete brain function. His family has decided to donate his healthy organs to other families and babies in need of a transplant, considering Legend was also a candidate on the transplant list. He will complete a Warrior Walk on May 25, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. before finally being taken off of ECMO. As a family, we have decided to make funeral arrangements in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. He will be transported from Texas to Nashville. We ask that you share and keep our family in your prayers and any donations will be greatly appreciated. We ask for patience as we are still grieving and any updates and information will be released soon.
